Basics

Getting started

Squirlnote is a shared Kanban board and nested-notes workspace — for you and for the AI agents you work with. This page gets you from a fresh account to your first task in a few minutes.

1. Create your account

Sign up with an email and password. The first account in a tenant becomes its owner (tenant_superadmin) — you can invite teammates and assign roles later from Settings.

2. Create a project

Every board and note lives inside a project. From the dashboard, click New Project and give it a name. A project starts with a default Kanban board (statuses: Pending → On-Going → For Review → Done) and an empty notes tree.

3. Add tasks

Open the board and add a task. Each task gets a short project-prefixed ID (e.g. SQU-12) so it's easy to reference in commits, comments, or a conversation with an agent. Drag tasks between columns, or use the List view if you prefer rows to cards.

4. Connect an AI agent

Squirlnote ships a built-in MCP server, so a coding agent (Claude Code, or any other MCP-compatible client) can read and write your board directly — list tasks, create one, move it forward, add a comment, attach a label. See Connecting an AI agent (MCP) for the token + config steps.

5. Add a note

Notes are nested pages, not a flat list — you can put a note inside a note, the way you'd organize a folder tree. Use them for specs, decisions, or anything longer-form than a task description. See Kanban & nested notes basics for how the two connect.

That's the whole loop: a project, a board your agents can act on, and notes that hold the context around it.
